The Nursery

We were a little behind on our time line to get the nursery done. We finally got the paint done a few weeks ago and ordered new carpet. (The old carpet was really gross and ugly, and we didn't cover it while we repainted the room.) We picked out carpet on Mon. Nov. 8. The earliest they could install the carpet was Nov 12, which we figured would be fine because our baby wasn't due until Nov 18. However, I went into labor that Tuesday and had our little girl on Wed Nov 10.

The carpet was installed the morning of the day we came home from the hospital. She spent that night in our room because we didn't get a chance to move all the furniture into the nursery. Thankfully, my sister- and mother-in-law assembled the crib in our room while we were in the hospital so we didn't have to worry about that when we came home.

We finally got the furniture moved into the room and all the baby stuff moved in on Saturday, with the help of my parents and sisters. Below are pictures of the final product. Note: three walls are green, one wall is blue. Yes, that's on purpose. :)

Officer Commissioning

On September 2, 2010, Caleb accepted his commission as an officer in the US Army and became an officer in the Utah National Guard. He had previously been a member of the Idaho National Guard, but switched to Utah because of the opportunities with the Engineers in Utah. Caleb completed his Officer Candidate School (OCS) with the Idaho Guard.
The oath swearing, pinning, and first salute took place at the Guard Headquarters in Draper. He is now a 2nd Lieutenant. I am so proud of him! He worked hard for a year and a half's worth of monthly drills and summer camps. And did I mention he received the Academic Award for getting the highest marks of his OCS class on the written tests! I really am so proud!

Some Summer Fun Pictures

Back in the middle of May, we decided to cut down one of our pine trees because it was starting to die. The following picture shows the strategy for getting the tree down:


That's right, Caleb went up halfway and began cutting the tree while the brothers-in-law held onto a rope that was tied higher up the tree. They would pull on the rope every once and while until it finally snapped the tree in half where Caleb had been cutting. Luckily, no one was injured and there was no property damage, but can I just say that I was so nervous the whole time! Then here is the tree finally down on the ground:



Then in the middle June, we went to Lagoon for Layton Construction's Lagoon Day. Since I am pregnant, I didn't get to ride too many rides (just the train, sky ride, and Rattlesnake Rapids). But we had a lot of fun hanging out with our friends. Our Little Girl

We are having a girl! The suggestions have come up to name her Ashley or Angie, but we have decided to go with Achaia (A-ki-yah) Jane. We are so excited! The above picture is from a 3-D ultrasound we had a week and a half a go. I hope you can see her, it's kinda fuzzy. The picture shows her face with her right hand up by her face like she is going to suck her thumb. It is so fun to get ultrasounds and see her grow and develop. We can't wait until November when we can welcome her into our family! And for the record, I am 21 weeks or 5 months pregnant. :)

The Latest

I have been horrible about posting on my blog. For a while I didn't have anything but boring school to write about. And now that I have stuff to blog about, I have been too busy to do so.

First off, our biggest news is that I am pregnant. I am 11 weeks this week and am due November 18. We are so tickled and excited to add a little one to our family. Our summer project will be to remodel one of our bedrooms and make it into a nursery.

Our other news lies in school. Caleb has finished his spring semester and I just have this week of classes and next week final exams. However, I have to finish my big senior design project and another term project this week. It is going to make for a really crazy next few days. I have a to-do list at least 20 things long just for these two projects. Not to mention keeping the rest of my life afloat.

But, on the bright side, Caleb and I will both graduate with our Bachelor's Degrees in December after fall semester. We will both have light class loads and are so excited to finish our "college" chapter in our life. In addition, I will be graduating from LDS Institute this Saturday, May 1.

So, life is going great. We are having a lot of fun hanging with friends and family when we get a chance. We started our garden this last week and have been doing a little landscaping in our yard. I am looking forward to getting more into these hobbies this summer since I won't have to worry about classes after work. Oh, and I am working an internship as a civil engineering technician for the Forest Service in Salt Lake this summer. Caleb and I will both be working in Salt Lake and commuting from Brigham City everyday. But we get to do it together, so it beats last summer. :)

Question of the day...

If the fire alarm goes off in class... is class canceled? Even if we were only 15 minutes into class?

Well, that happened to me today. I was sitting in Creative Arts in the enormous Kent Concert Hall at USU. 15 minutes into class, in the middle of a movie, all the lights come on and a calm woman's voice says, "There has been an emergency reported in this building. Please don't run, and exit the building in an orderly manner." Then the alarm goes off. So the whole 500 of us students exit the building into the cold winter. It looked like most students were going to stick around to see if class would reconvene, but I figured it wasn't worth standing in the cold so I left to start work a little early.

Christmas 2009

This year for Christmas, we spent almost the whole week at my parents' place. It worked out really well- I didn't have to cook and clean, and Caleb was only 20-30 minutes away from work. We celebrated Christmas with Caleb's family two Saturday's before and that worked out great, too!
On the Tuesday before Christmas, we had a party with some of my friends from high school. The following are only a glimpse of the joyous time we had there:

Christmas morning came early with lots of anticipation. We opened gifts at my parents' then went to my grandma's to visit with my dad's side of the family. It was a fun morning!

Perhaps too early... (also note the blanket- my mom and sister made a quilt of all my participation t-shirts from high school. They are so awesome!)

And finally, Christmas evening was at my uncle's house for dinner and games. We played Mario Brothers on the Wii, Ticket to Ride, and Golf- the card game. The food and company were great!

Going Public

I don't know how many people follow my blog. I have been horrible about keeping up on it. And I've started to realize lately that it is probably a pain to follow because I have set as private.

Well starting on my next post, I am going to make my blog public. I have some pictures to post from the holidays, so look for those coming soon. Also, I am going to try to be better at keeping the blog up to date with all of our adventures.
